While being an artist is the ultimate dream come true, there comes struggles and amazing opportunities for the women in music.
In case you haven’t noticed, the music we listen to on a daily basis — in my case trap music lol — all genres are male dominated.
In other words, men are targeted before women when being signed to the top dogs.
Not only that, but women have an image that they have to keep when being in the music industry. We once in a while see cases of artists who were told that they need to lose weight, become more fit, before they are signed or sent on tour.
Although exercise is healthy & therapeutic for the busy artist lifestyle, everyone is beautiful in their own way.
My experience in the music business has been full of highs & lows. I’ve been told that it’s a tough competition ( being an Illinoian, I def didn’t think I’d get this far ). But my wake up call to those people is that every time I get to perform, song-write, record, or meet someone new, I feel as if I am one step closer to the goal I’ve had since I was 13.
The future is female. I firmly believe the empowered women empower women. Nothing can stand in our way. Here’s to more women in the music industry.
With love, Shaniah
